02/09/2015 - Quiz Tomorrow

General Math (Periods 1, 2, 4, & 5) will have a short quiz tomorrow on converting and comparing unit rates.  The students will be allowed to use their reference sheets and/or their agendas along with calculators.

Accelerated Math started working on converting percents, decimals, and fractions.

Extra Credit Opportunities - Ask your student about the weekly challenge work they can earn extra credit for.  Several students have taken advantage of this opportunity the last two weeks.

Grade Reports
**After all quiz scores are posted I will be sending home math grade reports with students.  Students that have a parent or guardian sign the report will receive extra credit.  If a student has a D or F it is mandatory that the grade report be signed and returned.

ESS
Just a reminder that ESS is offered for math, language arts, and social studies/science after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until 4:10pm.

02/06/2015 - Update

General Math
All grades are up to date.  I have recorded all scores for this week's assignments, the Ratio test, and any late work received.  Monday we will be reviewing converting units.  The students will have a quiz on converting units on Tuesday, February 10th.

Accelerated Math
Monday we will be starting on percents.  The students took a short quiz on converting units today.  The quiz scores should be posted early next week.  Students that want to re-take the Ratios Unit Test (Multiple Choice only) must stay after school on Monday, February 9th.  I have announced this a few times throughout this week.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Week Update - 1/29/2015

First I want to apologize that I have not updated the blog until today.  The students have been working hard this week.  The test results from last Friday indicated that we needed to practice more on ratios.  So this week that is exactly what we did :)

Today the students created their own survey questions and actually conducted a survey during class.  Then using the data they collected they created ratio tables, ordered pairs, and a graph of the data.  I was very proud of their work!

We are going to re-test/re-quiz tomorrow so I am expecting the test results will improve.  I will be replacing the prior test grades with any improved scores.

Thursday, January 22nd - Unit Test tomorrow

Tomorrow all classes will be having a unit test over ratios.  Today the students reviewed during class by completing a study guide.  The students have this study guide to use in order to prepare for the unit test tomorrow.

01/20/2015 - Ratio Tables

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Today during the morning we had a celebration for the 6th grade student for growth shown on 5th grade's KPREP test.  The students and teachers had a great time celebrating the students accomplishments.

1st and 2nd Periods
The assembly was held during part of these class periods.  However, we had time to review some concepts from earlier this year.  We worked some problems on multiplying decimals, dividing decimals, and dividing fractions (both with a model and calculation).

4th and 5th Periods
Today we started learning about how to find equivalent ratios for a ratio table.  We worked through examples as a class.  I checked at least one problem for each student and helped as needed.  The students did a great job working in pairs on the homework.  The homework is to complete problems #8 - #13 on the front side and THREE (3) problems of their choice from the back side.

6th Period
We reviewed ratio tables today.  We reviewed some examples in class.  The students were to finish problems #8 - #19 for homework.  Most of the students finished them during class time.

01/14/2015 - Unit Rates

General Math
Today all classes worked on calculating unit rates to determine best buys.

HW:  Finish Best Buy problems

Accelerated Math
Today we continued to practice on calculating unit rates.  Many of the students seemed to be struggling with multiplying and dividing decimals.  In order to get more practice the students are calculating the unit rates by hand using division and then using multiplication to check their answers.  They did have some time to start the homework in class.  They are required to show all work on their own paper.

HW:  Finish Let's Make a Deal Problems

01/13/2015 - End of 9 Weeks Update

The second grading period (9 weeks) ends this Friday, January 16th.  I have posted ALL work that has been turned in with a name so far.  The students have been reminded multiple times that all late work must be turned in by Thursday.

Tomorrow any student that missed Friday's quiz on Inequalities will be making that quiz up during class.

Ratios Unit

Yesterday we started our new unit on ratios.  All students have learned how to write a ratio three different ways, how to find and identify equivalent ratios, and how to use ratios to solve real world problems.  The students in Accelerated Math learned how to calculate unit rates today.
